DIARY

Naptime

Just hit my third trimester today. I thought it was a couple of weeks ago, because Math Is Hard, but my weekly BabyCenter email just informed me that nope: today.

You guys. I am so tired. I had forgotten this minor aspect of the third trimester.

Like full-body, please let me sleep all day and every day for eva and eva tired. Cannot full form sentences tired (which is not an especially ideal situation for a person who theoretically must form sentences for a living).

(And not because I'm not sleeping: I totally am.)

Easy (And Weatherproof) Braided Updo

You know those milkmaid-type hairdos you always see celebrities wearing on red carpets with ball gowns, and the look is both odd and oddly cute? I always liked the fancy outfit/slightly disheveled braids dichotomy, but it also always seemed…kind of like a pain.

But with the humid weather on its way, a braided updo is quite the little problem-solver, and so I cobbled together this look, with low side braids that are sweet and casual without being too twee - it's a 'do that's both simple and completely weatherproof, and that works for everything from a wedding (maybe not your own, though) to a day at the beach.

Getting Personal

On set…in my kitchen.

I had a conversation in the comments under this post the other day that I found really interesting, and wanted to post the comment - and my response - for those of you who might find it interesting, as well.

I find the "business of blogging" a fascinating topic, partially because it's a very new field that people are still figuring out how to negotiate, and also because it's so divisive. Which I understand…and which is also why I try to be so transparent about not just the "personal" side of my life, but the "work" side as well. Honestly, the two don't feel all that different to me - it's all part of the story that I've been trying to share here for a good five years now; how my job has evolved over time, to me, is just as much fodder for writing about as how our family has evolved, or how my relationship with Kendrick has evolved.

Huffington Post: Right-This-Minute Beauty Favorites

Thanks so much to the Huffington Post for today's feature!

Click here for some right-this-minute beauty favorites (including the African Marula Oil that I've been applying every single night and LOVING despite the fact that Kendrick thinks it's incredibly weird, a cheap drugstore pencil that's an instant eye-brightener, and the lipstick that you may have noticed I've been wearing every single day).

Pretty Dresses & ‘Provisational Pastas

Backyard picnicking & inappropriately-sized seating choices.

I spent all day Saturday shooting what felt like millions and millions of segments (eight, actually, but that's a lot for one day when you take into account all the close-up shots, b-roll shots, et cetera that go into them) for a project that I've been teasing here and there over the past couple of months, and that I will be able to announce…later today! (Check back in just a couple of hours and it should be up.)

The shoot was followed by a BBQ with three couples who live near us and who we've become close with since we moved, and who also happen to each have two children: one Indy's age, and one infant (apparently I wasn't the only one who saw their child hit age two and immediately had the MUST HAVE MORE BABIES gear kick into overdrive). We're the Last Couple Standing with one child in this particular friend group, which is funny and cool: funny because when we're all hanging out we're basically sloths compared to our friends, who are doing things like burping and feeding and rocking while we're just sitting there like little guacamole-eating pharaohs - and cool because…I mean, babies are so cute. And it's so adorable to see all these two-and-a-half year olds with their little siblings, half not caring because babies are sort of boring (especially in comparison to the prospect of filling a bucket with rocks) and half loving being a big brother or sister and being super proud.

Mango & Greek Yogurt Smoothie

I have a major mango problem lately.

I cannot stop eating them. As cravings go, though, this is a pretty stellar one to have, since mangos are full of amazing things like antioxidants, fiber, Vitamins C and E, and folic acid. (They're especially good for your skin: Vitamin A helps to maintain a healthy complexion; antioxidants protect against free radicals; beta carotene makes your skin glow.)

And now my son is obsessed with them, too. The other night I showed him how to cut up a mango, and remembered my grandfather - who ate a mango after dinner almost every night of his life - showing me the same thing when I was a little girl, and got teary about it.
