Big Boy Beds & Not-So-Bad Ikea Trips

Kendrick and I have been getting along pretty well today, so we thought we'd take a quick trip to #ikea to even things out.

It wasn't that bad!

I mean, it was bad - not gonna lie - but not that bad. Certainly not as bad as last time, mostly because for these reasons:

To City, To City

What I wore for yesterday's meetings in the city: gold heels (and Sorel Slimpack boots for the ten-foot journey from my front door to my car, which is really pretty intense), glasses, and the best sweater in the universe, which is so huge and slouchy that it basically feels like wearing a rug. Which is exactly what I like sweaters to feel like.

It's Express from years ago, but I haven't worn it in ages and ages; I figured I'd lost it, but when I was at my mom's house the other day I discovered it in a drawer, and it has now returned to Favorite Status. I love it when that happens; it's like shopping for free.

Some lovely oversized sweater options for you:

Brushing Outside The Box

You know how when you’re a little kid and visit the dentist, they always give you the option of a few “weird” toothpaste flavors? Bubble gum, chocolate, strawberry, that kind of thing? I always chose mint. Which I guess is kind of weird for a kid, but I’ve always had a major thing about needing my toothpaste to taste fresh, as opposed to, say…fruity.

So when Crest sent over the three brand-new (and very out-of-the-box) toothpaste flavors in the Crest Be line to try, I was skeptical. Take Mint Chocolate Trek, for example: it’s vaguely evocative of a cup of hot chocolate. This does not sound like something I would like…and yet I do. It’s still minty, and still tastes like “toothpaste”…just a little bit more delicious.

DIY Valentine’s Day Cards For Kids

I’m not a crafting-type mom.

I’d like to be – I aspire to be – but you know those moms who have cabinets filled with things like glitter and pipe cleaners, and enjoy settling down on snowy afternoons to create bedazzled things with their children? They are not me.

But I do like cutting hearts out of construction paper (who doesn’t?), and I very much want to get my son excited about the fact that Valentine’s Day is coming up. It’s a holiday that I have historically not really cared about, but is now – like every other holiday – about ten thousand times more fun, given that I now have a very short roommate who is experiencing it for the third time in his life (and probably the first time with any real clarity).

Soft Makeup For Day To Night

I'm very much a default-mode person when it comes to my everyday makeup: I go for the same brushes, the same shadow colors, the same liner, the same gloss. Just because...it's easy, I suppose. I love playing with makeup, but I also usually have fifteen minutes to get out the door, so I generally just stick with what I know works.

A few days ago, though, I shot an extremely cool collaboration with a beauty brand I've been a major fan of for years (I'll share as soon as I'm allowed; so excited), and the looks we put together (not pictured here) were very out-of-the-box for me. And taking a moment to play reminded me: oh. I like experimenting with makeup.

Today’s Big Events, In Instagram Form

I stayed in the city with my son and dogs last night to attend a ShopStyle dinner at Toro (tapas, yum yum yum), and was super excited to find street parking near my parents' place, which meant that I got to skip handing over the truly unconscionable amount of money that New York City parking garages demand in order to keep your car overnight.

It also, however, meant that I got to spend the early-morning hours digging my car out of a two-foot snowdrift using only an umbrella (because Kendrick unwittingly made off with my scraper-thing), and then basically forded a slush-river to deposit three creatures - all of which were extremely unhappy about the whole situation - into carseats and the trunk, respectively. And then I forded more rivers to go grocery shopping, just to keep myself on my toes.

Anyway, it was horrible and kind of amazing, in that I felt like an umbrella-wielding SUPERHERO.

Hats & Lunch & Some Thoughts About Jenny McCarthy

Just wrapped up a winter hat hairstyles video shoot (coming up soon; the style pictured above is #5: The Bad Hair Day Solution). Right now I'm eating lunch and going through the stacks of paper sitting on my "desk" (a.k.a. our dining room table, sorry Kendrick), and came across an article that I tore out of OK Magazine a few weeks ago.

Now, I'm not usually a big article-clipper, and I don't usually get my life lessons from tabloids...but this Q&A with Jenny McCarthy hit home so much that I wanted to save it. And share it with you.
