Dry Skin Tips For The Similarly Afflicted

In the summer my skin is respectably non-flaky, but in the colder months it’s all alligator, all the time. What this means: a major focus on moisturizer – once September hits, I always moisturize at least twice a day (usually more), and sometimes even use my richer nighttime moisturizer in the morning (making sure that I then also layer on a product like BB cream for sun protection).

1. Start dealing with dryness before it starts: don’t wait until major flaking sets in before implementing your winter skincare routine.

In The Apple Trees

Last year, our apple picking excursion was just us three.

This year, we decided to make it a party.

We headed to Dr. Davie's Farm Stand in Congers, N.Y. with a whole bunch of friends, and spent the afternoon using those big wooden things that I've never seen before in my life (because I grew up in New York City where where such things aren't particularly useful) to pull apples off of the very highest branches. I have to say, I still love Warwick's orchards - they're huge, and right next to them are things like wine tasting places and petting zoos - but for a quick day trip to get pie-making supplies and hang out in the sun with friends, this was perfect.

Welcome To The New Ramshackle Glam!

Hi! I'm so excited about this.

This redesign (featuring a beautiful new logo by Naava) has been in the works for a few months now, and I'm so thrilled with how it turned out - I hope you enjoy it! The overall goal was to make RG more easy to navigate and fun to visit, so these are the big changes you'll see:

- A "slider" with five featured posts - either a handful of my favorite posts from the past few weeks that I think you might enjoy or topical content (e.g. Halloween-related posts during Halloween week);

Twenty Minutes Well-Spent

I am a true expert at concealing my mess.

Witness: my dresser drawers. (I know, and yes, it's extremely difficult to locate anything at all in there.)

Visible clutter makes me nuts - I keep all the surfaces in our house relatively bare and do things like straighten remote controls, fold throw blankets, and position pillows just-so before heading to sleep at night - but something about things being behind doors or in drawers makes me feel like I can pretend that they just don't exist. In they go, stuff stuff stuff, I'll deal with it later (I won't).

Must-Have Glassware That You Might Not Have Thought Of

There are some glasses you "need": sturdy water glasses, wine glasses, at least two champagne glasses just in case.

But there are also a handful of glasses that are just really nice to have...and that you may find you end up using more than your "regular" stuff.

First, everyone needs a really, really great mug that's just their own (this is mine; Kendrick's not allowed to use it because he has his own Best Dad mug). The mug doesn't have to be expensive (mine was $4.99) and should probably be weird (or animal-covered; I also love my monkey mug) if at all possible; the only important thing is that you feel like it's yours.

Torn T-Shirts And Twinsies

My friend Francesca (that's us in Vegas last spring) is the most fashionable person I know, and I don't mean that in an fancy-purses-and-snobby-labels way: I mean she's just one of those people who's naturally about ten steps ahead of the trends and can wear things like cut-up men's undershirts and somehow make them look like couture, and she inspires my own clothing experiments more than anyone else.

Oh my god, did we ever have fun when we lived together in L.A. We basically shared a wardrobe: she'd borrow one of my Trovata cat-princess dresses and I'd put on some beaded sheath that she'd found at a thrift store in Italy, and we'd head out to play darts until two in the morning before coming back home and jumping into the pool. I've never had that experience before - where you're so close with someone that your possessions become more or less shared - but that's exactly the way it was: even Lucy felt more like "our" dog than "mine".

Anyway, Francesca is very much my Fashion Spirit Sister, so when she emailed me that she was on the hunt for a perfectly distressed rocker tee (we email and/or text each other about ten times a day, so things like "I'm on the hunt for a perfectly distressed rocker tee" are totally acceptable topics, in addition to "Miley Cyrus is completely naked in her new video" and just how much Marvin is crying on this season of ANTM), I thought: ooh. That sounds good.
