Onyx And Jade
I don't wear a ton of color. I try to - I aspire to...but I don't. So when I own something like a pair of green ombre jeans, the easiest way for me to ensure that I actually wear them (rather than just taking them out of my closet every so often, thinking how pretty they look, and then putting them right on back) is to pair them with neutral everything-else.
Speaking of the everything-else: the blouse shown here is a new addition to my wardrobe, but that doesn't make any sense - it's so exactly what I want to wear every single day (silky feel, relaxed fit, wide v-neckline) that I really should have owned it already. (Both the blouse and the jeans are from NYDJ; I'm working with them on a collaboration this summer. You can see all my picks for a warm-weather travel wardrobe here.)
The final touches: a gold circlet necklace that I recently rediscovered in my jewelry drawer and have been wearing nearly every day, a pair of flats with bows on the toes, and a touch of tortoiseshell.
How-To: Accessorize A Bridesmaid’s Gown
Q. Hi Jordan,
I am a bridesmaid in a wedding, and the bride has chosen a navy dress but is allowing all of her bridesmaids to accessorize themselves. I tend to like funkier jewelry and colorful shoes, but I don't want to be too flamboyant or draw attention away from the bride. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks so much,

Slow-Cooker Orange Chicken
My slow-cooker doesn't see the light of day a whole lot during the summer, partly because the kinds of meals I usually like to use it for (pot roast, ribs, stew) are too heavy for these hot days, but also because we spend a lot of time cooking and eating outdoors. And slow-cookers are an "indoors" kind of thing.
Still, though: when you're pressed for time, there's nothing like letting your kitchen go ahead and cook your dinner for you...and that's what a slow-cooker does.
This recipe is inspired by one I found on Pinterest, and is sort of like a tangy twist on shredded BBQ chicken. I served it over rice (the steam-in-bag kind, because I'm lazy), but it would also be delicious piled onto sandwich rolls for a picnic.
Down By The Water
I grew up three blocks away from the Hudson River, and let me tell you: never once during the years that I lived on West 46th Street did anyone ever suggest that we pop over to the Hudson for a little dip on a hot summer day. Apparently things have changed, though, because yesterday afternoon a few friends and I set up camp at a small beach just a ten-minute drive from my front door, set up camp with sushi, pizza, and a bottle of rose, and...
swam.
I swam in the Hudson River. So did Indy.
It was so cool.
Scents From The Garden
What I want my house to smell like right now: as if I dragged my vegetable and herb garden inside and plunked it right down in the middle of my kitchen floor.

Right This Moment: All About Anklets
Delicate gold anklets are one of those things that I've always loved but have never owned for whatever reason. I think I was worried that I'd buy one only to have it catch on something and snap off 24 hours later, but no: Kendrick bought me one for my birthday - a full 2 1/2 months ago - and the thing is still ticking (and hasn't left my foot once).
(That is a very large photo of my foot. I'm sorry about that.)
Anyway, I love anklets.
Final Living Room Addition: Animal Print, Obviously
An eagle-eyed reader noted that the grey chevron rug that we put upstairs is the same rug that used to reside in our living room. You know, the rug that I photographed for this living room "after" post, in which I declared that I had finally - finally! - achieved a look that I was happy with.
And then my dogs destroyed my rug.
Or...they didn't destroy it, exactly...they just sort of "made it their own", and even though I was able to clean it, I wasn't able to return it to living room centerpiece-appropriate condition. Besides, I have always wanted to own a cowhide rug (and I mean always, as far back as I can remember caring about things like rugs), and so when I spotted a faux (and thus easier-to-clean) version on sale...

Paisley Like The Sky
This look is like an updated version of my standard silhouette: a lightweight silk shell instead of a slouchy tee and cropped jeans instead of cutoff shorts. In other words, it's the grownup version of how I usually look (but still comfortable enough to feel great in the summer heat), making it the perfect solution for daytime meetings in the city followed by a dinner date overlooking the river.
I love the print on these jeans - it's very Summer In Nantucket, and the beautiful, retro paisley print balances nicely with the just-right length of the jeans. These jeans are also really comfortable - they hit right under the belly button and have a slimming fit that works with either heels or flats. (They also run slightly big, so definitely go down a size if you're going to order them online.)
