Attic: Before And After

When we first spotted our home on the internet years before we actually bought it, we fell in love with the checkerboard floors, the leopard carpets, and the stone walls in the garden. The owners hadn't put up photos of the attic in the listing, so when we finally visited the home that would end up being ours, to say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement.

My Looks

Weekend Uniform, Lately

What I wore all weekend: a look that's hinting at the fact that I'm getting excited for fall clothing (hats! silky button-downs! brown leather!) but still light enough for midsummer.

(Mostly excited about the hat. I bought it at Anthropologie last fall, decided for some reason to store it on a hidden shelf in my closet, and completely forgot I owned it until two weeks ago when I rediscovered it and glued it to my head.)

Weekend Snapshots

We spent a gorgeous Saturday at our friend's place BBQing, running around with puppies, teaching a toddler version of lacrosse, and doing some grass-lounging.

What To Bring When You’re Meeting The Parents

...why would I bring something other than my fabulous self?

Q. Hey Jordan! In a couple of weeks, I am going to my boyfriend's hometown, and will be staying with his family. This is going to be the first time I am meeting his parents. From all of the stories I have heard they seem wonderful, but I have no idea what to get them for a gift.

Much appreciated!

Best-Ever Sleep Mask

I wear a sleep mask every single night of my life, and for the past however many months (years?) it's been a free one that says "Sephora" on it and that came with some makeup purchase or another way back when. It's all stretched out and not the most effective thing in the world even on the best of days...and I am a person who wakes up if a leaf falls to the ground outside; forget about actual light sources.

I know, this looks like a strapless bra. But it's not: it's a fancy eye mask that has little pockets in the front so that you can blink even when it's on; Kendrick surprised me with it yesterday.

Now that's a romantic present.

How To Wash Your Hair (The Right Way)

I know, I know...how to wash your hair? Uhhh...with water? But the fact is that there are a few simple things that you can do to take your morning routine to the next level, leaving you with more manageable hair than ever.

While we're on the topic: last night I hosted a Hair Love 101 Twitter Party, and the most-asked question was how to handle your hair when it's crazy hot and humid out. That's my big issue, too: my hair frizzes easily, and bangs (I'm growing mine out for the fall) and humidity do not mix. My solution: to keep my hair as generally healthy as possible (because I've found that the healthier my hair is, the better it looks in its natural state), and then to work with it rather than against it, applying frizz-fighting products (my favorite is Dove Style+Care Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum*) and then letting it do as it will.

Homemade Raspberry Jam

We have raspberry bushes in our front yard!

This is incredible news.

The city kid in me didn't actually believe that they could possibly be for-real raspberries and had to google "poisonous berries that look like raspberries" before I'd eat a single one, but nope: as it turns out, they're real. And great.

On Saturday, Kendrick spent awhile walking up and down our street picking as many as he could find, and we ended up with enough that my Aunt Jo-Anne suggested we try making jam.
