I must confess: when it comes to cold-weather brunches, I'm a major creature of habit (mostly because I wake up VERY hungry, and the slush doesn't inspire me to go trekking around the city in search of new finds).

*Make Chicken, Goat Cheese & Pear Turnovers (seriously, do).
*Head over to Brooklyn Lyceum (a century-old former public bath) for the Brooklyn Contra Dance (a communal dance party incorporating line dancing and swing; tickets are $14; lesson starts at 7:30).
My place in LA was nearby the bowling alley adjacent to Jerry's Deli (in the Valley), and I actually went fairly frequently. I never got particularly good at it, but I was at least passable. Or at least not embarrassingly bad.
That is Lucy, victoriously snatching her brand-new Skinneez toy (a long, floppy things with a squeaker at each end and no stuffing for them to pull out, yay) from Virgil, who is following in hot pursuit. Good girl, Luce!
