Baby Shower Invite

In this episode of “Domestic Bliss”, Marivi (marivi.manaluz@mac.com) teaches me how to make a baby shower invite.

This, friends, is the glorious sight that greets us every morning when we step outside the front doors of our apartment building.

I’ve been feeling pretty guilty about the fact that we only have one dog bed in the house, because Virgil is a total bed hog and forces Lucy to sleep on the couch (I don’t let them sleep on the bed with us on muddy, rainy days like those we’ve been having lately…white bedspread and all). Dog beds, however, are weirdly, crazily expensive (like $75+ at the pet shops near our apartment), so I wasn’t sure whether or not buying another one was the best idea at the moment.

Yesterday, however, I was returning a couple of things at TJ Maxx and came across this adorable dog bed built for two for only $24. They’re still a little confused by it (it’s very springy, and Lucy bounces right off), but I have visions of double-dog snuggle sessions happening in the near future.

Also, Virgil most definitely cannot see. Grooming imminent.

Yesterday afternoon I wandered around the Union Square Farmers Market for a bit before heading over to City Bakery (way too crowded, but incredible hot chocolate with oversized marshmallows) to meet Liz for some tea. On spring and summer weekends, the Union Square Market is the perfect date spot: we like to spend hours browsing the stands, planning the night’s dinner based on what we find (and maybe picking up some seasonal flowers). The primary offerings yesterday were apples and cider, but I could see the beginnings of spring starting to pop up (yay!).

I couldn’t resist buying some of that gorgeous-looking fresh mozzarella, and immediately spooned it over some tomatoes when I got home (with, um, a steak on the side…I was starrrving). It was creamy, salty, and buttery: perfect.

Check out this awesome DIY idea from Yay!DIY: college t-shirts repurposed as throw rugs! All you have to do is rip 7-10 shirts into strips, link them together, get your hands on some super-sized knitting needles, and go to town.

Go here for the play-by-play…and if you do this, send me pictures!

At the John Sahag Workshop yesterday afternoon with the man who singlehandedly saved my locks, Doug Macintosh. It’s been six months since my last Keratin treatment, and I was definitely due for a touch-up (they last 3-5 months).

Keratin is literally the best beauty treatment I have ever gotten (and that includes eyelash extensions from Ebenezer in Koreatown, which I got before my wedding and are pretty damn great). I shot some video at the salon so you can see how it works, which I’ll post as soon as I figure out how to fix the sound (I looked at the videos last night, and there’s a lot of echoing and whirring-of-hairdryers).

I’m totally passionate about the treatment, and honestly feel that it changed my life. I know that might sound silly (I am just talking about hair, of course)…but it’s freed up so much time that I used to spend wrestling with my hair for other things, like husband-and-puppy-cuddling. Oh, and see that hand gesture I’m making up there? That’s me describing what my hair looked like pre-Keratin treatment (hint: large) if it was even the slightest bit damp outside.

Treatment generously comped by salon.

I don’t really like plays, and I definitely don’t really like musicals.

I LOVE Hair. Love love love. Last night I took my mom to see the Broadway production as an early birthday present, and within five minutes the lead (hello, cute) had crawled into the audience to plant a big kiss on me (and, OK, a bunch of other people). The cast was beyond spectacular - especially Sasha Allen, whose voice in the final song had me in tears. And dancing wildly with my mom on stage to “Age of Aquarius” with the cast members was something I’ll remember forever.

Kisses, crying and dancing? Now, that’s my kind of show.
