We were celebrating the beautiful Liz’s bday, and so Kendrick joined all the girls (more boys came later…I think…I might have been a little “under the weather” by then) at Chorus Music Room & Karaoke Bar on 32nd Street, and he and Megan got down to some very serious business.

At Mercat with Meghan and Megan. The restaurant is beautiful - very gothic and sexy, especially in the downstairs area - and while the tapas weren’t particularly innovative, they were tasty (I could happily eat the patatas bravas daily, and the cod was excellent). I also appreciated that when we asked the waiter for a wine recommendation, he steered us towards what he said was his favorite, and happened to be the least expensive bottle on the menu. He was spot-on - especially for the price point, the wine was great.
Last night, I bundled up against the freezing weather and headed down to Mercat, a tapas place on Bond Street, for dinner with Meghan and Megan. The night started out nice and relaxed, and quickly became…semi-epic. Karaoke was involved. And lots and lots of soju.

And looking a little less-than-thrilled at the moment (she desperately wanted to wreak havoc in Rebecca’s place, but we held her to prevent disaster). She did, however, perk right up when we arrived at my parents’ place and she began her campaign of terror against their cats (that’s a joke - she’s actually sort of in a love affair with my parents’ kitten, Westley).
Megan with Lucy, who loves her Aunt “thiiiiiiis much.” Lucy had to come along because I’m housesitting for my parents this weekend (they have a virtual menagerie of animals - we’re talking three cats and the loudest African Grey bird in the universe) and we went by Rebecca Shepherd’s en route to my parents’ place. Lucy was…let’s just say “excitable”…and probably won’t be joining Mom at work in the future.

When I went to the Brooklyn Indie Market a couple of weeks ago, I met a lovely young floral and jewelry designer named Rebecca Shepherd. Yesterday afternoon, Megan and I stopped by her place to learn how to make a simple, inexpensive bridal bouquet, as well as a couple of gorgeous table arrangements (videos to come).
My mom’s super healthy, super fast dessert: winter squash (frozen) warmed in the microwave, sweetened by a few drops of Stevia plus a sprinkling of cinnamon. Try it, seriously.
Huh! Cool idea. It might also make a nice accompaniment for pork chops, as an alternative to applesauce.
