Minor Leagues

I've only been to a handful of sporting events in my life. I went to couple of Mets games and maybe a Knicks game or two when I was a kid, and had a football game date with Kendrick last fall…but that's pretty much it. This isn't because I don't "like" sports - I really do, I love the atmosphere and the food enough that I don't really care that I don't follow much of what's actually going on on the field. But it's all the other stuff - the crazy expense, the packed parking lots, and the fact that you have to leave earlier than you want to leave if you don't want to sit in traffic for two hours - that sort of turns me off.

It's just such a hassle.

The other night, Kendrick told me he had a couple of free tickets to a minor league game and asked if we wanted to go, and I wasn't terribly enthusiastic about the proposition of dragging a toddler through a crowded stadium at the exact moment in time that he typically goes to bed, but...

Can We Talk About Perfumes For A Moment, Please?

Because I would love to hear your recommendations.

First, this (Jo Malone Grapefruit) is not my regular perfume. My regular perfume is Bond No. 9 Nuits de Noho, which is a kinda musky vanilla-y scent not too dissimilar from Thierry Mugler's Angel, but less sweet and a bit sexier. I love it. I'm also feeling in the mood to try something different.

I brought the Jo Malone with me to Cali mostly because I want to leave as many personal care-type products here as possible when we make our return trip, and the shot-glass-sized bottle (1 oz) seemed like the right amount to last me the summer. And I thought the Grapefruit scent would be nice and fresh. But as it turns out…eh. I've heard great things about Jo Malone scents (and very much want to try out this one and this one), but the Grapefruit? I like it okay, but I don't know that it's really "me."

At This Moment

I can't get comfortable enough to sleep through the night, not even close. I can't take a deep breath, or eat more than a few bites of food at a time, or walk particularly long distances. I'm ready to have my body back to myself, if only so that I can pick up my son without making a huge production of it. Mostly I just can't wait to meet this little girl. My daughter. And what all of this adds up to is that I'm ready for this part to be over, and to move onto the next.

But still.

I love that right now, at this moment, I get to carry her with me all the time. I love it so much, and I don't want it to end.

It’s Packing Time! (What I’m Bringing To The Hospital)

We had a middle-of-the-night maybe-we-should-go-to-the-hospital episode a few days ago. Which ended up being nothing, but which also means: time to pack that bag, just in case.

So: let's talk what to bring along for the big trip.

The first time we did this, I made crazy-detailed lists on my phone of every single item I thought I might need to bring to the hospital. I still have these lists stored in my phone, and it's very cute that I thought I would absolutely require things like birthing balls and massage oils and photographs "to make me feel at home" (that is what iPhone libraries are for; also you'll be home soon and you are not going to forget you are in a hospital because Nana's face is there on the wall).

What I actually needed was something mindless to read/watch, lip balm, and All Of The Chargers. List: revised.

Keep Your Luggage Fresh (And More Weird And Cool Uses For Dryer Sheets)

Just a little travel hack for those of you with places to go in the coming weeks:

You know that not-so-hot, musty smell that your luggage (and its contents) tends to sport upon arriving at its destination? Here's an easy fix: just toss a dryer sheet or three into your bag; when you get to your hotel, your clothing will be infused with a light, fresh scent.

(And speaking of fresh scents and travel: always make sure to pack a couple of odor-proof trash bags; these are great for separating dirty clothing from the clean stuff for the return trip, so you can minimize the amount of laundry you need to do upon arriving home.)

My Looks

Tiny Clutches And Silk Blouses And More Things With A Limited Lifespan

(Kendrick says I look like a safari hunter here. I say safari hunters don't wear stilettos.)

Around this point in the pregnancy when I was expecting Indy, I put up a post in which I was wearing snakeskin pants (that didn't zipper, but whatever, that's what rubber bands and long tops are for) and wrote about how weird it was that I was in the mood for snakeskin-pant-wearing at 8,352,592 months pregnant, but hey: great.

I wouldn't have thought I'd be in the mood for heels and tiny clutches at this particular point either, but I am, so hey: great.

Can't stop wearing this camo tank (it's sold at Destination Maternity, but is really just a long, lightweight tank and totally works for the non-expecting, as well). (Follow along on Instagram @ramshackleglam.)

Great midi ring duo in chic black and white.

You have to read this post about a dad's reasoning for allowing his son to wear dresses. What an awesome father.

At-Home Spa Day

I don’t get to go to the spa too often. I mean, who does? It’s expensive and time-consuming, and is more of a (very) occasional indulgence than a regular occurrence. But some concentrated pampering time sounds good at the moment, and so: at-home spa day it is.

Obviously Spa Water is a must, both because hydration is the ultimate beauty cure and because cucumber water is delicious and makes getting all that hydration much more appealing.
