Carl Schurz Dog Run

Lucy was a little...let's just say "wary" (she preferred to stick by mom's side), but Virgil made about ten thousand new best friends, and even managed to sneak in a love affair or five.

Good To Know / Pesky Cocktail Speck

Last night, after our trip to the Salvation Army, Mom and I headed over to 44 & X for pre-dinner cocktails. I had just taken the first sip of my very delicious blue cheese olive-infused dirty martini when I noticed something unwanted floating about on the surface.

Holy ’50s Furniture Find!

Eee! So I spent Saturday prepping for a few upcoming Minwax segments for Meredith, and one of my tasks was to find a piece of wood furniture suitable for refinishing. I decided to stop by the Salvation Army - my go-to spot for spectacular furniture finds - and within about three seconds I discovered this unbelievable '50s-era piece (pictured in the SA elevator) for just $20! All I had to do was tighten a few of the screws affixing the legs to the body, and it was good to go.

I love love love love to the love it, and think I'm going to go with a dark cherry stain and gold legs to embrace the vintage feel of the piece.

Saturday also involved lots of wardrobe-sourcing to find tops that work well on-camera:

Heart This Brunch Idea / NoHo Star

I simply haven't seen the dish pictured above - Eggs Benedict over french toast, stewed apples, and bacon, all doused in maple syrup - anywhere else, and it is awesome. Also, you can make it en casa.

I Totally Shopped Strawberry!

Yesterday I had a meeting in midtown, and was all set to head home without, you know, shopping...but then that thing happened. You know what I'm talking about: you're just walking by a store, all casual-like, and then your eye catches something in the window, and you think "Huh. That's cute." And you keep walking - because you are NOT SHOPPING - but then ten paces or so later you do an about-face, and then suddenly you're in the store, and you're buying...a lot.

Fortunately, when this happened to me yesterday, it happened at the Strawberry store next to Grand Central.

Reader Rec / Vichy “Ice Effect” Eye Stick

Reader Francine wrote in to tell me about the Vichy Aqualia Antiox Anti-Fatigue Eye Stick ($28), which sounds like heaven in a tube: "I have allergies and wake up sometimes with puffy, horrifying eyes, and this stuff totally makes me look normal a half hour after using it." I think it's a perfect product to keep in your purse or desk drawer for a little mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

My mom once suffered from shingles in her eyes - yes, her eyes...it was as horrible as it sounds - and the area still sometimes bothers her. I just sent her an email about the eye stick, so we'll see if it helps. Thanks, Francine!

I Cannot Get Enough Of This Animal

This afternoon, I took a whole bunch of pictures of my 1880s-era floors to show to the producer of an upcoming segment I'm shooting for a wood refinishing company, and, per usual, my camera hog of a canine got in the way.

Spicy Spritzer

I don't like anything hot and/or spicy, but Kendrick certainly does, so last night when he walked through the door I had a carafe full of Jalepeno-Lime Spritzer waiting for him. Because I am an amazing, thoughtful, selfless wife. And because it's really easy to make.
