Incredibly, it’s just about that time of year again. Thanksgiving is in just a couple of days (!), and since lots of you will get started on your shopping this weekend, I’ve put together a gift guide (including lots of guy gifts and earth-friendly/good cause gifts, per your request) to help you along. I’ll be adding to the gift guide frequently over the coming weeks, so be sure to check back!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Jones Soda. All opinions are 100% mine.
Look what arrived in the mail this weekend, courtesy of Jones Soda! Tofurkey and Gravy Soda, and a very attractive turkey hat. I consider myself quite adventurous (as evidenced by my recent blood-sausage-eating foray to London), but I wasn’t getting near the stuff…so my intrepid husband generously sacrificed himself to the task. “Maybe it’ll be, like, savory and sweet, and surprisingly good?” He took one sip, declared it “sweet,” and may or may not have immediately run to the bathroom to dry heave - I’m not telling.
I would suggest not purchasing this particular flavor for…well, anyone. Wait, scratch that: I imagine that it would make a great stocking stuffer for Kendrick’s niece and nephew (who are both under the age of ten)…you can’t deny that there’s a strong curiosity factor at work here, and kids would probably love it. However, for those of you who are actually thirsty and would like to drink an entire soda that doesn’t make you feel somewhat wretched, Jones does have several flavors that I absolutely adore, and that I would much rather receive along with a matching hat, including Cream Soda and Berry Lemonade.
I must admit, though: the turkey hat is pretty spectacular. I will wear it often.
I’m laughing here because I was pretending I was starring in a Gap ad.
A Gap ad featuring people with really big teeth who are PSYCHED about their new hats.
I also went home with this sweater, which is super-soft and was on sale for just $25. The Gap is having a pretty incredible sale at the moment…I advise going. Quickly, because I suspect that the vultures will descend this coming holiday weekend.
I got pretty bored while Kendrick sat bleeding in the emergency room, so I decided to mosey on over to the Gap to peruse the wares.
Kidding! What kind of wife do you think I am? This picture was taken right after brunch, when we headed over to the Third Avenue Gap for a little shopping (Julia mentioned to me that she saw a few things on her recent trip that she thought I’d love). See? That’s my healthy (albeit slightly irritated) husband in the background, patiently holding my scarf and jacket and staring out into space while I take iPhone photos in the mirror (it’s for reasons like this that I am constantly cooking him delicious dinners).
Is it bad that I want this coat desperately, even though it reminds me of my second-grade teacher, Mrs. Firestone? It’s cozy, and warmer than just about anything I own, and only $64, and I love it…I don’t care what you think. No, I do. What do you think?!
P.S. I bought the hat, obviously.
A Lovely Sunday Afternoon
Sunday afternoon, I was typing away on my computer while Kendrick (very graciously) took care of a few of the dishes that had been piling up. Suddenly, from the kitchen, a crash: “Uhhh…uh-oh.
If you’re looking for a charity to donate to this holiday season (or recently cleaned out your closet and want to donate your hand-me-downs to a good cause), consider The Uniform Project. In May 2009, Sheena Matheiken pledged to wear the same dress every day for an entire year both as an exercise in sustainable fashion and as a fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that funds uniforms and educational supplies for children living in Indian slums. You can donate to the cause itself, or donate accessories (Sheena has 7 identical dresses, but reinvents the look daily with vintage or hand-me-down accoutrements).
Take a moment to check out the site; it’s pretty amazing.
I just placed a delivery order with Sable’s Deli for my absolute favorite thing to eat when I’m sick: matzo ball soup. I wasn’t sure where to find good matzo ball soup on the UES, and while searching around on the internet I came across a link for NYC’s 10 Best Matzo Ball Soups, including “Best Landmark Matzo Ball” (Katz’s Deli) and “Best Soup and Pie Combo” (Bubby’s).
