Another option for those of you looking for something new to do this weekend: hit the Brooklyn Indie Market in Carroll Gardens, which offers not one item that can be found in a major retail store. This Saturday, apparently, a “time machine” will materialize at the market with “19th-century travelers” stepping out. Last year, New York Magazine’s fashion blog called this event “a feast for the eyes.”

Check out Flavorpill for an extensive list of NYC-area events this Saturday and Sunday.

Did you know that there’s a three-acre corn maze in Queens? I didn’t, but now I just might have to check it out. Time Out NY recommends that adults head over after dark (when the Park Slope kids have gone to sleep) to explore the maze with flashlights.

The Queens County Farm Museum (home of the maize maze) also offers hayrides, pick-your-own-pumpkin, and a kid-friendly haunted house.

The Perfect Pumpkin

In this video, I head upstate to Fishkill Farms to locate the perfect pumpkin, and to learn how to make pumpkin soup (which you serve straight from the pumpkin itself).

‘Cause You’ve Been Asking

Over the past couple of months, I’ve received a bunch of emails from readers asking me to explain the specifics of my involvement with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” I’ve thought a lot about whether or not to talk about this publicly, but have decided to tell my story 1) because it’s a part of my life that happened, and a part that has had an enormous impact on me, and 2) because I recently received an email from a reader who had something very similar happen to her, and wanted my advice on how to deal with the situation on an emotional level. So yes, I think it’s an interesting story, but I also think it’s an important one to tell given that many young people deal with similar issues.

My involvement with “Sunny” was complicated by two factors: 1) I was romantically involved with my co-star and the creator of the show, Rob McElhenney, for many years, and the demise of our relationship was what ultimately led to my forced exit from the show, and 2) I was very young – about 23 years old – when the following events transpired, and was so intimidated by the people with whom I was working (including top-level FX executives) that I felt that I had no voice whatsoever.

Thursday evening Kendrick and I checked out Nightmare: Vampires, a haunted house down on Houston Street. I’m one of those people who loves going to horror movies, but then keeps their eyes shut the entire time (“tell me when it’s over!”), and I basically did the same thing at the haunted house: buried my face in Kendrick’s jacket and prayed for it to be over soon. But I had a blast. I definitely don’t recommend it for people who are seriously claustrophobic or prone to seizures (there are lots of strobe lights), but it’s a great way to get into the Halloween state of mind.

Tickets generously comped by management.

Another favorite.

I’m falling in this one, in case you can’t tell (heels + grass + wedding jitters = even less coordinated than usual me).
