French Quarter

French Quarter | New Orleans

Top & Skirt | Flats | Clutch

When Kendrick and I first decided to drive across the country to get to our new home in California, we each made a wishlist of can't-miss places. First on his list was New Orleans, a city that each of us had only been to once before (and both only very briefly), and that we'd always talked about visiting together. So we sat down and mocked up our drive, calculating hours and miles and distances we'd need to travel to have everything make sense...and realized that we couldn't make New Orleans happen.

That Time I Got A Tattoo At A Bar

...Well, okay, I didn't get a tattoo in a bar-bar. More like an room that had been transformed into 1/4 bar, 1/4 vintage boutique, 1/4 epic fashion display, and 1/4 tattoo parlor.

I'm going to back up for a sec.

I started the night at an event at Au Fudge (Jessica Biel's kid-friendly restaurant in Los Angeles) celebrating CNN anchor Adrianna Costa's Haute Mom's Life podcast, where she has candid conversations with celeb moms like Kate Hudson, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, and Gwen Stefani, among others. My lovely (very new mom) friend Audrey came with me, and we drank delicious things out of mismatched crystal goblets and chatted about the disaster that is newborns. We cracked up talking to Kristin Cruz of MomAngeles (such a fun site, btw, with tons of great ideas about family-friendly local events), wondered whether that was Soleil Moon Frye over there (still not sure), and furrowed our brows wondering how, exactly, Adrianna can be two weeks away from giving birth to her second child and still capable of peppily hosting a glamorous party in a skintight hot pink dress.

I Don’t Know Who The Guy In That Photo Is (And More LA Fun)

Me last night, in a very pretty dress. Let's just say things have gone downhill since then.

In lieu of an actual post about my morning, I thought I'd just leave the entire text conversation between myself and Francesca here for you.

P.S. The "skin in bed" reference has to do with residual effects from this, and may go down in history as the single most horrifying experience I have ever subjected Francesca to (and there have been many).

Style

Because Men Get Style Posts Too Sometimes

Who's THAT guy?

Supra Sneakers | Paper Denim Jacket | Panerai Watch | Ray Ban Sunnies

Whenever I visit Francesca (a.k.a. "squat in her apartment and eat all her Trader Joe's chocolate-covered cherries") I end up taking bunches of photos of her and posting them online, because it's fun but mostly because I feel like style as spectacular as hers should be shared.

48 Hours In LA

Kendrick's Shirt | 7FAM Cutoffs | Drybar Blowout (woooo)

I'm in LA, woo! I'm off to a full day of shooting pickups for the show I've been working on (pickups are basically little inserts that you shoot after an episode is done to tie together the storyline, fill in any elements that were missed during the first go-round, etc), and I completely did not write a post for today because I expected yesterday to be not especially busy and then it was super busy and then I decided to hang out with my friends and do tarot readings instead of be responsible.

And now I have three minutes to do my makeup and put on clothing and get in an Uber, so oops. Come hang out with me on Instagram Stories or Snapchat; I'm all about the videos this trip.

I Tried Baby-Led Weaning By Accident (And It Worked)

the pros and cons of baby led weaning

I didn't sleep particularly well last night and have to get on an airplane today after a quick budget meeting with our district school board (please try not to be jealous), so I figured what the hell, let's talk about controversial parenting techniques!

That should be relaxing.

The Season Of Lazy Is Upon Me

bohemian outfit for a renaissance faire with wings

Bag (similar) | Skirt | Blouse (similar)

The overt purpose of this photograph, taken at last weekend's Renaissance Faire, is to show you the wings that I am wearing. But before we get to that, I think that you should be aware that as relatively serene as I appear in this image, approximately five minutes after this was taken our daughter commenced what was literally - LITERALLY - the most epic meltdown she has ever had. And she is two years old, so we're talking about a serious achievement.

See, what happened was that we did nothing at all, and this made her so furious that she decided to do a sort of full-body whiplash-thing while cracking her skull against my eye socket and chin (over and over) while I tried desperately to calm her via the delivery of things with sugar in them and an uncomfortably loud public rendition of Part Of Your World, and while passers-by looked on in what was unquestionably horror mixed with intense judgment of our parenting skills.

Ugh FINE (Take 4,560,099)

In case you weren't sure, this is Beyonce, not me. I do have this sweatshirt though.

There have been approximately three zillion times in my life when I have definitively declared myself irreversibly opposed to A Thing, only to discover that said Thing is (annoyingly)...

ok fiiiiiiine...

Decor

Most Importantly, Of Course, It Is Pink

Little girls are apparently way more interested in goats than antiques.

I LOVE it when you go to a flea market/swap meet/antique store with zero expectations and then accidentally stumble upon a treasure that just so happens to require exactly the (small) amount of cash that you have sitting in your wallet.

Right?!

Mermaid Party, Take Two

Remember when I said that my friend Elise and I decided to go for the same theme for both of our daughter's birthday parties, so we could share the decorations (both the cost and the labor)? It ended up being such a good idea.

I loved how Goldie's party turned out - and Elise's was absolutely spectacular (ok, it helps that she had a friend with an insanely beautiful house who offered to let her throw the party in the backyard). The coolest part: even though all the decorations and activities were the same at the two parties, they ended up feeling special and unique in both venues with just minor tweaks.
