Profile: Sasha Rhett Toile Collection

When I first laid eyes on Sasha Rhett's sweet Toile Collection, I was intrigued, mostly because...well, they're lovely, and neatly combine elegance and versatility with a relaxed vibe. But then I found out that the woman behind the watches, Alexandra Daum, is a fellow Harvard grad ('10) who started creating her own collection because she recognized a need for classic - but still affordable - women's timepieces...and that she did this while still taking classes during her senior year.

So I had to ask her a few questions. Namely...how did she do that?

Ramshackle Glam: So seriously: how did you do that? Start up your own company designing watches while still a student?

Little Rue Launching Today

Oh, dear.

Oh, wallet.

Rue La La is launching Little Rue (a kids' division with heavily discounted apparel, accessories, and "experiences for Mom") today.

Sales will last 48 hours (or until they sell out), and new sales will launch nightly at 8PM (they're geared towards moms looking to shop during the "quiet hours"). And P.S., both Rue La La and Little Rue have implemented a new policy wherein you have 30 days of free shipping after paying an initial $9.95 shipping fee.

Lazy Days

Did you know that late in pregnancy (and I'll officially be "full term" - not at my due date but nevertheless OK To Go if labor starts - in just a couple of weeks), your non-baby-growing organs get all bunched up somewhere around your shoulders?

Day Trip: Tarrytown, N.Y.

Tarrytown is another one of those day trips from NYC that's so easy that it almost doesn't feel like a "trip" at all: 15 bucks and 50 minutes on the MetroNorth from Grand Central, a three-minute walk up the hill from the train station, and you're there.

We went yesterday because it's one of the towns on the shortlist of Places We're Thinking About Moving To Within The Next Year Or So (along with Irvington and some of the other neighboring towns), and also because...well, let's be honest: it was probably the last day trip I have in me for awhile (just walking up the hill made me so tired that I could easily have fallen asleep under the table during lunch).

In a nutshell, Tarrytown is a relaxed place with a bit of a hippie vibe and lots of organic/sustainable foodie options, plus some nice antiquing and pretty historical sightseeing (like Washington Irving's home and one of the oldest surviving theaters in Westchester County).
