Creepy shot; awesome results.

Megan and I were given in-store facials at the Origins event on Thursday evening, and after mine I was so glowy that I declined their offer to apply makeup and went out into the evening bare-faced.

I do my own facials at home more often than not - professional facials can seriously dent your wallet. If you’d like to do the same, here are the basic steps to follow:

Lilly and Lucy loved this evening’s pasta carbonara (recipe to come).

Note: in response to a reader email, no, of course you shouldn’t feed your puppies big plates of people food. Lilly and Lucy’s version of my “carbonara” was some cubes of cooked pancetta and peas mixed into their regular dog food. Dogs deserve special meals, too!

Lilly (right) and Lucy are having a playdate today while Julia attends the Wharton conference. This is the first minute. By the third, Lilly was under the couch and Lucy was asleep on top of it. Young love. So fickle.

On the agenda today: a double-walk, and then a bath-for-two (sounds like more fun than I think it’ll turn out to be).

I went to gymnastics camp for a summer when I was 13, and this photo of the lovely Julia reminds me just how much fun it is to jump into these foam pits. I even kinda want to enroll in a weekly gymnastics class, even though I think my back might be a little too old to handle it.

One of the photos from the Time Out NY “You Shoot NY” photo project … at the Chelsea Piers gymnastics foam pit, which is, btw, quite fun.

And…the finished product. Am I crazy to think that it looks like something I could have purchased at ABC Carpet & Home? OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but let’s tally it up, folks:

Lamp: $0

Crystals: $3 at thrift shop

Wallpaper: $0 (thanks, Stephen!)

Home

Lamp Refurbish (Steps 11-12)

11. Crystals with holes running through them (like the ones I used here) can be found in many thrift shops or trimmings stores. Thread them through with gold (or silver, or clear) wire.

Home

Lamp Refurbish (Steps 9-10)

9. Apply bronze or gold fast-dry enamel (I use Plasti-Kote Brush-On, but whatever you find in your local hardware store is fine) to selected areas with a small brush - a couple of coats might be necessary for full coverage.
